Industry News: Euro NCAP crashes Mazda CX-30, Mercedes-Benz GLB and Opel Corsa

Euro NCAP has released the results of its latest batch of safety ratings, crashing three SA-bound models: the new Mercedes-Benz GLB, Mazda CX-30 and Opel Corsa.

The best performer of this round was the five-star CX-30, which has achieved 99 percent score for adult occupant protection. The crossover also scored 86 percent for child occupant safety, 80 percent for vulnerable road-user safety and 77 percent for its standard (in Europe, anyway) safety assistance technology.

Mercedes-Benz’s new GLB likewise scored five stars, registering scores of 92 percent, 88 percent, 78 percent and 74 percent in the adult occupant, child occupant, vulnerable road-user and safety assistance categories.

The Opel Corsa, meanwhile, had to settle for four stars, missing the top rating by a single percentage point in safety assist segment.

“Congratulations to Mazda for another almost-perfect score in adult occupant safety. There are still several cars to be rated in 2019 but it is unlikely we will see better for this part of the assessment,” said Michiel van Ratingen, secretary general of Euro NCAP.
