News: Volkswagen promises new Golf 8 will ?continue the success story??

A high-ranking Volkswagen executive has promised the soon-to-be-revealed Golf 8 will “continue the success story” of the nameplate, adding the German firm is “digitalising the Golf class”.

Set to be fully revealed in October 2019, the eighth-generation Golf will again be produced at the company’s plant in Wolfsburg.

Ralf Brandstätter, chief operating officer for the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, said the next version of the popular hatchback would continue in the Golf 7’s footprints.

“The Golf is the bestseller and the benchmark in the compact segment; it is the favourite car for many people all over the world and comes top in tests,” Brandstätter said.

“The new Golf will continue the success story, because it is fully connected, and comes equipped with modern driver assistance systems and an intelligent voice assistant. In a nutshell: we are digitalising the Golf class,” he explained.

Bernd Osterloh, group and general works council chairman, promised “the Golf 8 will again be the champion in its class”.

VW earlier said the Golf 8 would boast “design and digital innovations” launching it into the “era of electrified drives, a digitalised and connected interior world, assisted driving and online-based functions and services”.
