Ford in the United States has introduced a new FX2 package for 4×2 derivatives, adding what the Blue Oval brand describes as “off-road styling and capability”.
The FX2 package includes 17-inch (or optionally an inch larger) off-road tyres along with a front underbody guard and an air dam delete (the latter ostensibly improving the approach angle).
An electronic-locking rear differential and “off-road-tuned suspension” are also included the package, as is an off-road cluster screen displaying pitch, roll and yaw in real time.
Of course, the Ranger offered in North America is a little different (chiefly under the bonnet) to the one built here in South Africa. Indeed, the US-spec model draws its urge from the automaker’s turbocharged 2,3-litre petrol engine, mated with a ten-speed automatic transmission and offering 201 kW and 420 N.m.
“FX2 expands Ranger’s options for customers who want tough, off-road style with the functionality of a locking differential but don’t need four-wheel drive,” said Brian Bell, Ford Ranger marketing manager in the US.
“This is another way our customers can personalise Ranger to match their lifestyle while getting a great value.”
In the US, the FX2 package will cost $595 before tax, which translates to around R9 000. As far as we can tell, there are no plans to offer this package here in South Africa.
