New Models: Volkswagen T-Cross in SA: pricing for initial models released!

Volkswagen South Africa has released pricing for the initial derivatives in its T-Cross range, which are set to touch down in September 2019.

The T-Cross 1,0 TSI Comfortline DSG will be priced from R334 600, while the T-Cross 1,0 TSI Highline DSG will come in from R365 000. Interestingly, VW SA says it will offer a “pre-booking process” on its website for sales of the T-Cross from 15 July 2019.

Both of the abovementioned variants employ the Wolfsburg-based firm’s familiar 1,0 TSI engine, which delivers 85 kW and 200 N.m to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (and which we experienced on the international launch). The turbocharged three-cylinder petrol unit will facilitate a sprint to 100 km/h in a claimed 10,2 seconds, along with a top speed of 193 km/h and claimed fuel consumption of 4,9 L/100 km.

So, what about the earlier claim from VW SA that the new T-Cross would start below R300 000? Well, the automaker says a 70 kW version of the 1,0 TSI engine (mated with a five-speed manual gearbox) will arrive in the second quarter of 2020, with the Trendline variant starting below that mark.

From the first quarter of 2020, meanwhile, a 1,5 TSI flagship with 110 kW will be available. Interestingly, no diesel option is planned for South Africa.

The T-Cross will furthermore be available with the VW Connect dataplug, which the brand describes as an easy “plug-and-play” retrofit car connectivity solution. It is plugged into the onboard diagnostic interface and sends data via Bluetooth to the customer’s smartphone.

The VW Connect dataplug will offer information on vehicle servicing, an assessment of driving style, an overview of fuel consumption, automated saving of the vehicle’s location and a digital logbook.

The newcomer will ship standard with a three-year/120 000 km warranty as well as a three-year/45 000 km service plan (with intervals of 15 000 km). Read more about the make-up of the local line-up
